The Veterans Memorial Patriots displayed resilience and an explosive running game on Thursday night at D.W. Rutledge Stadium, despite falling to the Boerne Greyhounds with a final score of 45-27. The Patriots battled until the very end, demonstrating a strong fighting spirit that promises excitement for the rest of the season. The loss moves the Patriots' overall record to 2-6 and their district record to 0-4.
The Greyhounds took an early lead, scoring a passing touchdown in the first quarter and two more to start the second. However, the Patriots found their stride midway through the second, with running back Trecorrus Jordan breaking through for an 18-yard touchdown run, successfully followed by a Ben Fink extra point. Jordan's momentum was infectious, but Boerne managed one more score before the half.
The third quarter saw the Patriots rally. After a Boerne field goal, the dynamic Jordan exploded for a 59-yard touchdown run. The Patriots successfully converted the two-point conversion to narrow the gap to 31-15, showcasing the team’s resolve.
The Patriots continued to put points on the board in the fourth quarter. Quarterback MJ Sparks found David Jones-Hadnott for a 27-yard touchdown pass, and Jordan capped off his stellar performance with his third rushing touchdown of the night, a 14-yard score. The Patriots' three touchdowns in the second half highlighted the power of their offense and their refusal to quit.
The Patriots will carry this fighting energy into their next district game against Harlandale on Friday, October 31, at Harlandale Memorial Stadium.
