The Veterans Memorial Patriots closed out their 2024 season with a valiant effort, falling 13-7 to the Victoria West Warriors on Friday night at D.W. Rutledge Stadium. While the season concludes with an overall record of 2-8 and a district record of 0-6, the Patriots played with heart and celebrated their dedicated seniors on their final night.
The Patriots wasted no time in seizing the momentum. Running back Trecorrus Jordan Jr. immediately electrified the home crowd with a spectacular 73-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Ben Fink's successful extra point put the Patriots ahead 7-0. The Warriors quickly answered with a rushing touchdown of their own, evening the score at 7-7.
The second quarter was a defensive showcase, with neither team managing to put points on the board. The intensity continued into the second half, where the Warriors managed to punch in a 1-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. The missed extra point held the score at 13-7, keeping the Patriots within striking distance.
Despite a fierce defensive effort in the fourth quarter, the Patriots were unable to find the end zone again. The game highlighted the team's relentless defense and the explosive ability of players like Jordan Jr.
As the season concludes, the Veterans Memorial Patriots look forward to building on the passion and commitment displayed throughout the year. We thank our seniors for their leadership and dedication to the program and look ahead to a bright future.
