The Veterans Memorial Patriot Boys Soccer team kicked off their 2025-26 campaign in impressive fashion on Tuesday afternoon, securing a 1-0 victory over the La Vernia Bears in their home opener.
The Patriots dominated possession from the opening whistle, keeping the ball deep in Bears territory for much of the first half. While the offense created several high-quality scoring opportunities, they couldn’t quite find the back of the net, heading into halftime in a scoreless deadlock. Meanwhile, the Patriot defense remained clinical, neutralizing the La Vernia attack at every turn.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when Fausto Castro slotted home the first goal of the season, assisted by Jeremiah Galloway. Despite late-game pressure and rising intensity from the Bears, the Patriots stayed composed to seal the win. In a standout performance, goalkeeper Logan Leon earned his first career Varsity shutout.
The Patriots will look to carry this momentum into the New Year as they face Elgin on January 1, 2026, to kick off the SAISD Tournament.
