The Patriots opened the season against the Harlandale Indians under the lights at D.W. Rutledge Stadium. Harlandale were able to get on the board first but were unable to cap it off with an extra point. The Patriots offense responded on the next drive to take the lead. The Patriots seemed unstoppable and was like a freight train building up steam with every play until there was no slowing them down. The defense had a few challenges but were up for the task as they only allowed one touchdown in the half. The Patriots went into halftime up 28-6. Harlandale would start the second half with a drive to add some more points to their tally but the Patriots would punch back quickly, not allowing Harlandale to build any momentum. The Patriot defense showed off tremendous grit as they weathered an onslaught by Harlandale. The Patriots stopped Harlandale on the 1 yard line preventing them from scoring. The Patriots would connect for a few more touchdowns as they moved the ball around the field. Harlandale made a final attempt to get into reach in the closing minutes with a final touchdown but it was a little too late to have any impact on the game. The final score was 42-19 in favor of the Patriots. Clinton Dixon had 1 rushing touchdown and threw 1 passing touchdown. Alex Lopez threw 2 passing touchdowns. Chris Bassett had 1 rushing touchdown. Ja’Kwon Downing had 1 rushing touchdown and caught 3 passes for touchdowns. Nate Ortega was a standout for defense with 2 interceptions. Rafael Nunez was perfect on the extra points. The Patriots next face Taft on 2 September 2023 at Farris Stadium in San Antonio.
